Biography:

Alaina McLarin, M.S. in Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies in Spanish, presented on her comparative study of U.S. Cold War interests in Iran and Cuba. In addition to taking all her courses in Spanish, Alaina also spent this year learning Arabic. "I have loved the struggle this topic has been! I had a hard time finding exactly what I wanted to say, which led me to more and more research. I care a great deal about the countries I have chosen and want their stories to be heard through this lens." Alaina also shared some of the challenges of creating a strong presentation: "Once I got a grasp on the research, I realized I had way too much to convey it all in 15 minutes, so this presentation has been a great way for me to figure out the best way to tell the story. I have never worked so hard on a presentation!"
